ALAINA ENSLEN
Multidisciplinary artist based in Hudson Valley, New York
Welcome.
From my studio in Cornwall-on-Hudson, New York, I create works that weave together fiber, encaustic, and the natural world. My practice grows from a lineage of weavers, quilters, and makers, shaped by a nomadic upbringing, and guided by a deep reverence for process, material, and memory.
I’ve been painting and teaching for over twenty-five years, sharing my work in exhibitions across the U.S. and abroad. Art Spiel once described my work as “part artifact, part event, [as] she emancipates a fixed past with a limitless present,” which beautifully captures the spirit I hope to bring to each piece.
Alongside my studio practice, I’m a Certified Instructor for R&F Handmade Paints and an educator at the Woodstock School of Art and Storm King Art Center. Teaching and community are a vital part of my journey, and I’ve had the joy of leading encaustic workshops in the U.S., Portugal, Brazil and soon Spain. My work is represented by Carrie Haddad Gallery in Hudson, New York.
